Legal issue, serious replies only please

Anything is possible, Biden could have US Marshalls special forces inbound on Blackhawks as we speak, Japanese mobilizing JSDF, but in reality, what happens in cases where a US citizen breaks US law abroad?

Capital crimes, sex trafficking aside, of course.

For example, without hiding your identity let’s say, you e-mail some death threats to your former boss or mail an envelope laced with baking powder to an ex-boyfriend.

Or if I get into a drunken fight with some yahoo from Montana in the Hub, can he go back to Montana and sue me for emotional damages?

It’s an interesting concept to think about.

**edit**

This post wasn’t intended to be about ‘me,’ I’m irreverent to the conversation and to you, it’s an interesting thought exercise that I thought might have more clarity with a real-world example. But it degraded into ever reply being a ‘fuck you u I hope you die’ rant, and I don’t want this thread to be ‘me’ focused; again, I’m just some rando. PM me your hate, keep it off the main thread.

  1. US and Japan have an extradition treaty. So for a serious crime, the US authorities could share evidence with Japan, and have you arrested here and extradited, presumably. NAL

  2. If you got someone swatted, you deserve all the shit you get, including a very long prison sentence.

  3. You don’t deserve serious objective replies….because “I had a person Swatted in Michigan” that literally defines you as a cunt.

For those who don’t know what “swatting” is, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatting

It’s not only illegal, a waste of tax money and resources, but also super fucking dangerous, and could lead to serious injuries and even death.

  4. OP, I see you are trying to reply to people, but your replies are being filtered as your account is too young. There is nothing in your original post, or replies, that makes people empathize with your position (as you have not revealed for why you feel the person you swatted deserved it).

So, from our perspective, you are just being salty for being called out being a cunt. Because all the details you have given so far make you a cunt.

  5. What a fucking r/thathappened

if it did actually do it, you’re a piece of shit and I hope you get prosecuted to the full extent that the law allows

post edit: you’re an idiot. why the fuck do you think anyone here would know, let alone care about such a specific, nothing to do with Japan at all thread. maybe try some edgelord thread, but make sure you use gloves, cos your edge is way too sharp!

  6. Well, your question isn’t so clear… and it depends on the crime of course.
Realistically I doubt the U.S will go to any length to extradite you unless you do something really shitty. There is a much higher chance of a civil lawsuit brought against you by your “victim”.

If you’re actually asking about the crime of SWATTING, then it might be serious enough for them to do something. But yeah they 100% have the right to sue you in civil court.

  7. As for your drunken fight example, I beat the shit out of some Lebanese dickhead from Sydney looking for a fight who was visiting Osaka as a tourist many years back. No repercussions! If he were Japanese, I’d surely be in jail.

  8. Read the American law fine print or ask a lawyer if your curiosity peaks you. Try searching for previous crimes like this. Why do expect a serious answer to a ‘hypothetical’ scenario

Edit: This is Japanlife not Japanlawyeradvisor,
Try asking in lawyers subreddit or something you might find something especially if it’s abt merica. And also hey try researching about your ‘curiousity’.
