Salary system change

I work for a venture company and the current salary system is that the employees are paid for work completed in a current pay period. (My salary for May is for work done or expected work done at the same month)

By July which is the start of the company’s new fiscal year, the company would pay all employees in arrears so that the work done by July would be paid in August. This would also mean that the company will not pay salary in July although they would give out bonuses in July as per usual. It feels weird not to receive salary for a month so I am wondering if this is normal thing companies do? They told us if the system change would cause disruptions in the living costs etc, we can ask them for some adjustments or something.

I tried searching for previous posts but to no avail so hoping for some insights for this.
