I’m planning to buy the JR East Pass in a couple of weeks. Not the ideal time to travel but university and work didn’t allow me to use it in Autumn/Winter. This will be the fourth time I buy it and I would like to hear suggestions about places out of the common in Tohoku (Sendai, Matsushima Bay, Aomori, Aizu, etc.).
I want to go around the tsunami-hit area in Fukushima and do what they call “hope tourism” and visit museums, memorials, and sites where they want to show the efforts to recover the region (as opposed to the typical Youtuber visiting the no-entry zones).
Besides this, I’ve been to Yamadera once but want to go back. Also planning to go to Hachinohe’s morning market and perhaps try Hirosaki in Aomori for its apple pies.
Any suggestion is welcome!
