Essentials for “adulting” in Japan

Hi everyone. I just moved here in Japan as a research student and I’ve pretty much settled in thanks to some guidelines by my university, but a part of me can’t help but feel that there are other things I have to do. To summarize, here’s what I’ve registered/applied for so far:

* Residence card
* National Health Insurance
* Pension
* My Number
* Bank account (Yuucho)

Anyway, my hunch is telling me that’s not all there is to it… I’ve also read about things like the Japan Post—is this required? What exactly is it for? I’ve managed to get some things delivered to my dormitory from Amazon without registering to Japan Post… Are there also taxes I have to be concerned about?

I apologize if this seems silly, but I just graduated from college and arrived here so this whole adulting thing in Japan is all new to me.

*Addendum:* I’m a MEXT scholarship recipient if that helps!
