Japan begins 40,000 yen tax cut to help inflation-hit households

  1. Japan always tries to solve problems by simply throwing small sums of money around.

    Just last night on the news, they were talking about tackling the low birth rate by giving all pregnant women money to refund part of the cost of birth. As if that will have any meaningful impact on people’s choice of whether to have a child.

    Giving everyone a small amount of cash might make you look good to voters in (an African banana republic kind of way), but it ultimately does nothing to address the core problem.
