Visit Japan Web Tax Free QR is useless

I just got back from a whistle stop tour of Hokkaido and Tokyo and I have to say while I like the idea of a QR code that does away with needing passports for tax free shopping, none of the shops I visited (Bic, Yodobashi, Daimaru, Mitsukoshi, Parco, and so forth) will accept the QR code for tax free shopping even if you open your browser and log into the VJW site in front of them.

They all insist on passport only, a little bit disappointing but expected for a country that adopts tech a little slower. Just my two cents and word of advice to people seeking to shop in Japan
