Planning your second trip to Japan.

Hi all,

I (28m) just came back from my first trip to Japan. I guess, as many before me, have been so positively impacted by their experience and want to go back for a second visit sooner rather than later. Hopefully next year.

My wife and I went for 15 days. Our itinerary (meant as a very rough schedule to give you an idea of the areas of a city we visited, and not a detailed list) looked like this:
Days 1-4: Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Asakusa, Uueno)
Days 5-9: Kyoto (Shrines in the Hagashiyama ward, Fushimi ward, Arashiyama, Nishiki Market, Shijo-dori)
Days 10-13: Osaka (Dotonburi, Orange Street, America-mura, Tenjimbashi, Universal Studios)
Days 14-15: Tokyo (Ginza, Akihabara)

What would you recommend in terms of other cities and towns for a second visit? So far I have Hiroshima and Kanazawa.

A bit of extra context in case this helps to give advice:
We are interested in getting a deeper perspective into Japan and its culture.
We love forests and beaches more than mountains.
We would plan again for roughly 15 days.
We would like a mix between towns and cities (we both enjoy strolling through a city’s shopping district, visiting a mall here and there…).
We would like to include a “day-off” kinda of experience, I.e. Where we allow ourselves just to relax and disconnect, instead of walking 20-30k steps a day.

Thanks for the recommendations!
