I will be traveling to Japan in a couple weeks and I am trying to plan ahead for rain and be flexible since it is rainy season. I have enough indoor stuff in Tokyo and Osaka but I am worried about Kyoto. Most of my itinerary involves seeing things that are outside (philosophers path, bamboo trail, various temples). I wanted to see if it is possible to still do these areas comfortably in a light rain. I actually enjoy walking around tourist destinations in the rain as long as it isn’t heavy. I will have a good raincoat, umbrella, and waterproof shoes).. I mostly want to see if I will still be able to access these areas, get the full experience, and be comfortable even if it is raining. I would obviously no try during severe rain or a prolonged thunderstorm. If it’s possible to do the areas I mentioned and temples like kinkaku-ji in the rain if I prepare it will help to reduce my anxiety a bit. Any indoor alternatives are appreciated too.
Unrelated question I’m going to put here so I don’t have to make a separate post – is a 28” suitcase ok to take on most public transport in Japan or is it too big and I won’t have space for it? I will be traveling only in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka only and I’m more worried about smaller intercity hubs versus larger rail trips.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
