I’m going to be in Tokyo with friends in November, and Toyoko inn prices seem too good to be true, specifically Toyoko Asakusa Kuramae 2, does anyone have experience with it?
What’s suspicious about it? They’re pretty basic hotels (aimed at salary men on business trips mostly) but you get a bed and bathroom which is pretty much all you need from a hotel.
Toyoko Inn is the largest hotel chain in Japan. You aren’t getting scammed with it. It’s pretty basic though, but the cleanliness is second to none and it has a lot of fans.
Personally, I search Toyoko Inn first because I even checked other hotels.
It’s my usual go-to for business hotels. You’re not going to get a lot of space or extras but you get a place to sleep, space enough for your bags, clean room/bathroom, free breakfast, and usually close to a station.
I stayed in Toyoko Inns pretty much exclusively for the last three weeks, on a friend’s recommendation. They’re basic but they’re legit, and they’re often excellently located. I fully plan on going right back to them next time I’m in Japan.
I’m going to stay in Asakusa Kuramae n. 2 in two weeks so it’s nice to hear comments! I was just looking for a place to sleep with breakfast and this one looked promising. Has anyone had experience of room changes, the website says that room change is required every 7th night?
It’s all a scam I tells ya
They are extremely basic, hence the cheapness. I believe that depending on the Toyoko, you might not be allowed to stay in the room during the set cleaning period, so if you need a break in the middle of the day, may not be an option. My only definite warning is that they all seem to get their mattresses from the same vendor, who seems to specialize in firmness best described as concrete-adjacent. If you like that, no problem! It’s not compatible with my back, personally.
Suspiciously?
No? I used them everytime. It’s really that cheap. You can see a lot of Japanese workers used them too. Most importantly they have free breakfast included. Their miso soup is amazing (even better than restaurant’s)
The bad thing is the checkout time is 1000 compared to other hotel 1100/1200.
I was literally there like two weeks ago haha. It was a good hotel, typical Japanese breakfast. Mildly annoying thing was every time I wanted to borrow an iron, I had to go down, request it, bring it up, use it, and bring it back down. Aside from that, 0 complaints. Came with free amenities and laundry access. 2 min walk from the subway station (Kuramae). 15 min walk from Sensoji. I would recommend it. Check in is done through a machine, easy. The attendants didn’t seem to speak English when I went.
They could be apartment turned hotels.
Usually their offers don’t come with a daily cleaning.
