Please, somebody tell me I’m not losing my mind.
I live near Osaka Castle. Not every night, but sometimes, I can distinctly hear someone playing a trumpet. It seems to come from the vicinity of the castle park. My husband thinks I’m hearing things because he’s never heard it. It’s always after dark, usually between 9 pm and midnight. I heard it again tonight. Does anyone else hear this or know about it, or am I really hearing things? Thanks!

It’s a famous spot for people who want to practice their instruments but cannot do so at home.
Don’t know about a trumpeter, but I regularly see a guy with a full set of drummers practicing at Naniwa-no-Miya-Ato Park, so perhaps it’s someone like him?
Whenever I see him I think “oh, guess that wife kicked him out for playing the drums inside” jajajajajaja
Castle walls makes for good acoustics! Same with bridges, you’ll also find a few musicians practice under overpasses or bridges.
Another spot is Ryoukuchikoen-park. At least 1 tuba, 1 violin and 1 bassist there almost weekly.
I once saw a trumpeter practice at like 7am in the Yodogawa river bank! There’s also a marching band that practices around there.
I see from the comments that this is a common practice. No wonder since (many? at least mine does) rentals even forbid having instruments 😱
Yes, people go to the park to practice. There used to be a guy who I’d often see standing near the subway exit inside the park on Tamatsukuri-suji, practicing his trumpet. Might be the same guy, who knows.
What stopped you from going in the park and taking a look?
