  1. ”The Konan Municipal Government on May 31 punished the deputy manager with a three-month 10% pay cut.”

Oh well problem totally solved then! Totally makes sense to keep a self-avowed racist in a position in a position of authority over subordinates he admitted he was prejudiced against. Nevermind the impact it could have on residents.

  2. > “I have a prejudice against foreigners.”

Huh interesting; I have a prejudice against cunts.

  3. You hear an American say this they are fired and blacklisted lol. Not particularly surprised as Japan is an insular society but with how things are going they better be more friendly to foreigners 😅😅

  4. >ia deputy manager **in his 50s** repeatedly made discriminatory remarks toward two subordinates of foreign nationality

    No hope.

  5. It doesn’t help when 90% of the crime featured in the news are ones caused by foreigners.

  6. Japan has no laws prohibiting racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination, but these guys should’ve been punished in a way to warn others. The sad part is, I hear this kind of talk all of the time. It’s hasn’t changed in 20+ years. The news should report more about “why” the number of foreigners is increasing, and explore their work, cultures and assimilation. People seem to just think they are here causing problems or because Japan is awesome, when they’re doing the jobs Japan needs, but Japanese people don’t want to do.

  7. A lot of public servants in city/town halls are absolutely useless human beings. Many in the smaller towns were hired from pure nepotism. (I know a town that literally hires kids straight out of high school). Their salaries are shit at first, but it rises, and so do their bonuses for literaly no reason other than the amount of years they’ve been on the job. Over the course of a year there are several skills building seminars, but many public servants don’t take them seriously and just show up without actually participating.

Some public servants also abuse the mental health leave system to basically give themselves a lifetime UBI. After someone gets busted for doing something wrong, they will take paid mental health leave for a year, then return to work with menial duties for just long enough to claim stress again and go on another year of mental health leave. And because they are still technically employees, the city/town hall will not get the funding to pay for another employee. So whole divisions are short staffed.

There are good public servants too, but they often get forced into the private sector because they can’t stand picking up for everyone else’s slack, and know their real worth.

  8. While the racism part is disgusting I’m even more surprised this person is still employed after using their position in the government to find someone’s information. How is that not a criminal offense?

  9. Why is he punished discrimination and not for privacy violation and computer abuse?
