Best internet situation for remote work?

I just moved to Japan (citizen, but new to the living here) and working fully remote. My work basically requires me to be on Zoom calls all day with people around the world, and having a stable and fast internet connection is important for me.

Although I can work from home, I’d also like to be out of the house if possible since I go stir crazy sometimes. And I’d like to visit my relatives around the country like in the inaka in Fukushima and still be able to work.

I’m still looking for a place to live, which I know impacts what kind of internet connection I’m probably able to have, but what would you suggest for my situation?

Is it better to work completely off a pocket wifi for everything?

Or would it be better to have an internet connection at home and change my cellular provider to be one that is faster and more stable for hotspots when I travel (I currently have Rakuten Mobile and it kind of sucks but it’s cheap)? I have a Pixel 7a if that changes anything.

Is there another option that would be better?

Having a fast and stable internet connection is my top priority. If it can be cost efficient, that’d be great too, but I’m willing to shell out for a better connection.

Thanks for any insights 🙂
