A question about WPA2/3 and NTT routers

Hi, hoping someone with some knowledge or experience can kindly help me with a tech question about my home router. The router is the standard NTT one (like a white box with cable TV connections where all the LAN cables in the walls plug into). It was installed with the house when it was built around 10 years ago.

My question relates to updating to WPA2/3. Basically I bought a super cheap fanless PC that I have connected to my TV that I use as a Plex server. The problem is, I can’t make the server “public” or even accessible by a “direct” connection from other macs around my house even though everything is connected to the same network via LAN because Plex says my router settings have outdated WPA1 security. I contacted NTT to ask if it was possible to buy and install a new router but they insisted that the old router is still good and said they won’t come out to take a look or help me. Ages ago, I was able to access the router settings via browser but didn’t end up touching anything because I was afraid I’d screw something up. Since then I have lost the password to take another look. The NTT router puts out a Wifi “G” signal but the security is so out of date that our phones won’t connect to it, so we have two other store-bought wifi routers connected via LAN which work fine, but since they are connected to the NTT router, Plex refuses to cooperate with a direct connection even if I try to connect to it over Wifi rather than lan.

So my question is, does anyone have any suggestions on how to upgrade the security of my NTT router? Again I did contact them and they insisted there was no problem, the security is fine, and there is no need to buy a new one. I am not totally clueless about networks but I’m nowhere near an expert either, and I would be likely using some kind of translation if I went into the router settings which makes things even more difficult.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? Maybe it’s a common issue and someone has some first-hand experience with how they solved it? Many thanks in advance!

ETA: I may be mistaken in that the issue with the security of the NTT router being WPA since the connections are all wired and we are not using the NTT router’s wireless function at all since it is unusable.
