Hello all, first post here, please do let me know if I've missed something obvious!
I've managed to secure a IB Science teaching post in an international school, and the school is providing 100,000JPY moving allowance, as well as an apartment etc.
At a minimum, I wish to move over the vast majority of my PC equipment, which includes the following:
- 2 PC towers (1 full tower, 1 mid tower)
- 3 Monitors (32in, 27in, 24in Wacom Cintiq)
- Audio Interface, small mixer desk.
- Miscellaneous cables etc.
I'm keen to send this stuff, particularly due to the fact that I require use of it until minimum a week before moving, so selling it is not really an option (plus I'm not sure that I could make back the money and buy equivalent components in Japan). The timeline is that there is barely a week after which the school term/semester ends here and me leaving for Japan, so it's a bit of a rush.
With regards to clothes and other essentials, I'm initially travelling with a couple of friends who have agreed to let me use their baggage allowance (so 23 * 3 = 69 kg), which I mostly intend to use to ship clothing, daily essentials, as well as a bunch of merchandise that I ironically enough, purchased in Japan over last Christmas and summer.
I've seen various quotes for well above 1000 GBP, which is a concern as 100k JPY is barely equivalent to 500 GBP given the exchange rate slide…
As this is my first time moving internationally, I'd gladly appreciate some concrete advice on how I could maintain a similar setup if not exactly the same one in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Any recommendations for shipping companies etc. would be especially helpful.
Thanks in advance, and have a good day!
