My wife is super keen to stay at a traditional Ryokan, with meals and private onsen. I'm a bit concerned our kids aren't going to enjoy it, but I guess they need to suck it up! I'm a bit indifferent, but anything for the wife 🙂
Any suggestions on a location late June/early July?

You should do it, it’s amazing and teenagers will moan, no matter what.

What about a compromise with the Hoshinoya group Tokyo , Karuizawa , Fuji , Kyoto etc – Japanese aesthetics but in a modern setting ? That way everyone is happy – my kids like Ryokans but can’t handle a traditional Japanese breakfast so need a western alternative on offer as well .
