Right now, my main way of getting money from US Banks to my JPY account is to stand in front of an ATM, extract $500-1000 at a time from my US bank accounts, and then deposit it back into the ATM into my JP Bank Account. Using this method, I can move $3000 /day, which is more than enough for my purposes. The fee is ¥220 per transaction.
I've tried and failed to use Wise several times, with an extremely high failure rate and multiple weeks of delays. I've gone to my bank, seen the wiki page, checked my name, etc… Long story short, FUCK Wise. Not worth it.
So my question is why do people tend to be dissuaded by ATM fees when it seems a lot cheaper, faster, and assured than international wire transfer services?
Wise: 0.35% for $1000 = $3.50
ATM: (Â¥220) $1.41 for $1000
