Rainy season tips!

Hello everyone!
I have found incredible bargains for tickets to japan in late june / early july so I’m thinking of going with a friend to this country that I love so much but I’ve never been in the summer!

I need to mention however that over my life I have been three times already so I am not planning to go to the usual destinations except for maybe Tokyo for a couple of days to visit some friends.
Just for your information the places that I have already been to are: Tokyo, the Kansai region, Takayama and Shirakawago, Kanazawa, Matsumoto, Kiso valley, Hakone, Sapporo and surroundings, Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Kumamoto and a bunch of places in Okinawa.

My main questions are:
1) How bad is the rainy season? I wouldn’t want to walk with an umbrella all day long for the whole time. I have been to tropical places where at a certain time of the day it starts raining but I’ve always been fine with it since there’s a good alternation between tropical rain and sun over the same day.
2) How is Kyushu / Chugoku / Shikoku in the summer temperature-wise? I am aware that the cities tend to be extremely humid but I wonder whether there are regions in which this condition is mitigated.
3) I know Tohoku is great for temperatures in the summer but I wonder whether it would be worth it given that I’d love to see it in the winter AND I realized that most summer festivals are in August so I would miss them. Would you still recommend going there as opposed to going somewhere else?

My idea would probably be to take the train to Hiroshima then to Kyushu and rent a car from there and drive through Shikoku all the way to Tokyo but I still am hesitant due to the rain and the potential other alternatives. I’d also love to climb Mt. Fuji given that the summer is the only time when I can do it.

In general I’m super open to recommendations so please let me know your thoughts about this! I’m flexible with the duration of the trip it could be anywhere between 1-2 weeks.

Thanks in advance!
