Christmas Eve Travel – From Narita Int’l to Kyoto

Hi Everybody,

Few questions – would love your thoughts/help!

My partner and I will be traveling to Japan this winter. We land on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, in Narita Int'l airport in Tokyo, at 16:40.

Ideally, we'd like to go to take a bullet train that night to Kyoto and start our trip there before doing Tokyo on the back-end of our trip.

My question is – are we going to be able to get from Narita Airport to the Tokyo bullet train station before the last train leaves? Also given it's Christmas Eve, do we need to book tickets in advance? How do we go about doing that?

We plan on staying in Kyoto for a few days, then spending a few days in Hakone before wrapping up in Tokyo. Would a JR Pass be worth it? And if so, do we still need to book tickets in advance?

I know that's a lot, but really appreciate everyone's thoughts.

If you have off-the-beaten path recs in Kyoto/Hakone/Tokyo, my DMs are also open. Thanks!!!
