I live in the Inaka and my neighbors never go outside. They're all likely middle aged people with kids age from 8 to 18. There are 3 neighbors around.
All of them arrive home in their cars, park in front of their houses and go inside immediately.
It's been a year and I've never seen them outside of their house really. They park their car as close to their door as possible and scurry inside immediately. They never go for walks or do any chores outside. I've literarily never seen their face. You could put them in a line up and I would have no idea who would be my neighbors.
They all have fully concrete yards and their houses are all like boxes without windows.
I am guessing this is sort of normal japanese behavior. But, it makes me wonder – what are they doing all day inside their house? do they not like going outside?
EDIT: If the original question wasn't clear. My question is – these people living in houses with no yard, no windows and can't see sunlight. They must desire this low maintenance life for a reason. One would assume it's because they're so busy doing something so want a low maintenance life. But, what are they busy doing? I never see them doing anything. They aren't working outside, they aren't walking around the neighborhood, they aren't maintaining their house, they aren't outside playing with their kids.
