Residence Tax late payment and Permanent Residency

I changed jobs last year. My last employer paid residence tax till last year's May and my current employer started paying residence tax since January this year. I was stupid and completely forgot that I need to pay residence tax myself for the seven months in between. I discovered the payment slips now while looking for some documents. I didn't get any PAY UP NOW notices and also received a HSP Visa six months ago. All of my taxes (NHI, Pension, Income tax etc) is up to date as it gets deducted from my salary. I am thinking of applying for PR, will my application get rejected? I'll go to the ward office today to pay the remaining residence tax. It sucks, because all of my other documents are fine. I'm confused why it didn't come up while applying for HSP that my Residence tax is unpaid (a lawyer hired by the office did it for me).

Edit: I just went to the ward office and turns out, all of the taxes are paid. It was my misunderstanding, thank god. thank you for all the replies!

  1. You should absolutely pay ASAP.
If you haven’t applied for PR yet you might be fine.
Just make sure to pay on time.
Even a late payment of your guarantor can impact your PR application.

If I were you I would keep a proof of payment, and I would consider preparing an explanation on your honest mistake due to circumstances that you have since understood and resolved.

If a lawyer is helping you, definitely bring that up and see what they suggest.
Worst case, you might have to wait a couple of years.

  2. Glad you have it sorted OP.

I applied for PR back in February. A solid application after multiple spouse visas, except for some late rez tax payments that it turns out I had forgotten about! I got a letter almost 2 months ago asking for my explanation as to why some payments were late and requesting one or two extra documents. I do not have a solid excuse as to why, just being disorganized.

I am not really expecting I will get my PR with this application. However, I am wondering if there is still a chance since they did not just write to me with a flat out refusal? What sort of excuse could sway their opinion?

Anyone else on here manage to get PR with a less than water tight application?
