Japan, summer and… merino wool clothing?

We're going to Japan in June and know it will be warm, and they are also apparently having a heatwave.

Some of my clothes for travel are merino or merino blends. I've traveled with them for years, but generally to cooler regions. Lately, I've heard points of view that merino is not good for warm, humid travel. Either it's too warm or it starts to feel itchy in the heat.

I have alternatives on hand (cotton blends or synthetics blends), but I know and trust merino to hold up well in travel (ease of use, odors, wrinkles). But I'm open to influence! This is for tops – t-shirts, polos, button downs.

This question may seem odd, but I'm coming from the San Francisco Bay Area where temps often feel slightly cooler than the gauge says + there's no humidity. I grew up knowing what hot and humid is, but my brain has lost the memory of what it actually feels like and it's always kind of a shocker to re-experience it.

Temps in Tokyo, Kyoto, elsewhere don't look too bad in June, but it's hard to say how it will actually feel and that might be impacted by clothing material choices.

Any feedback on merino clothing in this context is appreciated. Thank you.
