Landlord refuses to reimburse sink fixing costs

Hi everyone, I moved into a new apartment two months, and starting from two days ago the kitchen sink began to emit a weird rotten odor. It went from zero to unbearable pretty quickly, so in my haste to fix the problem I phoned a plumber and had them fix it without consulting with the landlord (I did speak to the management company about the issue on the day I called the plumber). My mistake. I have the mitsumori sho, stating the costs and the exact reason the odor appeared, which is lack of maintenance due to old age.

So, the problem is my landlord does not want to reimburse the costs. They admit that since I'm a new tenant they have a responsibility to fix it, but because I went ahead and contacted a plumber myself without notifying them I am 100 percent responsible for any occurring costs. I want to know if anyone might have experience related to matters like this, did I fuck myself over by going ahead with the repairs, or should I be adamant about some type of reimbursement?

Thank you! Any advice is appreciated.
