Is Tokyo more crowded than pre-corona era now or am I being illusory(not considering the influx of tourists)

I arrived Japan late 2019 and spent several month here before coronavirus. I don’t recall Tokyo being this crowded before and you have to line up everywhere. And I don’t mean the tourist spot such as Senso-ji. I mean place like restaurants, cinema, museum and so on.
Is Tokyo always like this before the coronavirus?
