Hi all our itinerary is fairly preliminary, we generally like to be over planned for our trips. We have both been to Japan before (much shorter time), however planning to sort of treat this like our first go around again.
We would like to include more of the nature, hiking side, scenic sites on this trip where possible.

* Day Trip: Kumamota – one piece statues (Oct 1)
* Day trip: Oita – Yufuin Floral Village (Oct 2)
* Aso Kuju National Park

* Train to Hiroshima late on Oct 2
Oct 3-Oct 4 – Hiroshima
* Atomic Bomb Dome
* Peace Memorial /Museum
* Peace Memorial Park
* Hiroshima Castle?
* Shukkeien Garden
Day trip: Miyajima (Oct 4)
* Mt Misen
- Train to Osaka on Oct 4
- (From everything I've read, 2 days is the general recommendation)
Oct 5- Oct 7 – Osaka
Day trip: Okayama (Oct 5)
* (Might consider skipping Okayama, and adding a day elsewhere. Would appreciate feedback)
* (How realistic would it be to combine this with Miyajima? Or Himeji?)
Day trip: Kobe (Oct 6)
* Hike – Shin-Kobe Station
* Nunobiki Waterfall
* Maiko Marine Promenade (view Akashi Kaikyo Bridge)

Day trip: Himeji (Oct 7)

- Spend afternoon evening exploring Osaka

Day trip: Nagoya (Oct 8)
* Ghibli Park
* Toyota Museum
* Atsuta-jinja

Day trip: Nara (Oct 9)

* Fushimi Inari (side route)

* (Feels like Kyoto could use an extra day)
Oct 12 – Kanazawa
* Train to Kanazawa
* Kenrokuen (Garden)
* Ninjadera
* Higashi Chaya (Entertainment District)
* Nagamachi (Samurai District)
- Stay the night at Kanazawa (is this recommended? I just figured it takes a long time to travel to Kanazawa)
Oct 13

* Train to Tokyo
Oct 14 – Oct 21 – Tokyo
* Day trip to Matsumoto (Oct 14)
(Another day, I'm considering removing in favor of adding a day somewhere else).
