For real. I try to google it but every webpage gives me different information, something between 13,000,000 and 40,000,000 . Why i can’t find that information? Can someone explain me this?

More generally though, “Tokyo” could refer to the [23 special wards of Tokyo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_wards_of_Tokyo) which, until 1943, made up the [city of Tokyo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_City) and has a population of around 9 million people, or it could refer to the [Greater Tokyo Area](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Tokyo_Area), including various surrounding prefectures, and depending on your definition could have a population up to 40 million people.
