I don’t have Gboard but I’ll assume like with other kana keyboards just type and it’ll format it into katakana (if the word uses katakana).
There is a keyboard that lets you draw the characters so you could have both and then switch between them
It does so automatically. It suggests the word you’re going to type and then you can choose to fill it in especially if its nonsense in Hiragana, the same word in Katakana should be the first suggestion.
When you are type a character let’s say Ko, on the keyboard will show こ, but if you see the predicted text on the middle it will show コ
If you type た for example, the predictive text will show the katakana, that’s how I use it
Don’t think you can see the Katakana on the keyboard. But start typing and you should see the suggestions pop up. Click the arrow to expand, and usually it shows the full word in Katakana.
