  1. Pay your damn taxes, people.

YouTube travel vlog “side hustle” income needs to be declared like everything else.

  2. Pay taxes. Why can’t you do this? What is the reason why Japanese can do it and foreigners can’t?
Doesn’t your home country have a system of paying taxes?

  3. There are many other issues and they choose to blame it on foreigners. 10 years later we’ll be welcoming you joining 3rd world

  4. Great way to get rid of freeloaders.

If you like the comfort, convenience and safety Japan provides you should be paying to keep it that way.

    Otherwise, go home.

  5. Frankly, this is the main reason I’ve been thinking about leaving Japan. Not only are working conditions no better than developing countries in many industries, Japan is falling behind. And has been for half a century. The reason the politically powerful in Japan haven’t been ousted is because, by design, it is impossible to remove the nepotists. Huge fees to run, unregulated smear campaigns via social media, and a very literal “”secret”” club of right-wing politicians who don’t really care what happens to Japan as long as they get to keep their 1939 fantasy game going.

  6. People love to complain about japan. Japan is Japan.

The reality is Japan is the same country pre-World War 2. The USA made sure the nationalist wing people stayed in power to deter communism during the occupation. And these same people are still in power to deter china.

Basically the USA hated the nationalist because they weren’t on our side. But once they were on our side, it’s fair game.

The dream of “liberal and diverse” Japan is some things of weeb wet dreams. The reality is Japan is still the Empire with a “democracy” favor attached to it with the USA support.

  7. >a 2019 opinion poll in which over 70% of respondents apparently were in favor of revoking permanent residency if the holder no longer fulfills their requirements

One of the requirements is that you can make a living. So… become unemployed, lose your PR? PR is supposed to protect you from situations like this. (I know that this is not what’s discussed in the diet right now, I can just too easily imagine that 99% of the people who answered the poll have no idea about the intrecacies of PR. Which is alright, but then why does their opinion count?)

    >Justice Minister Ryuji Koizumi clearly stated, “Revocation is limited to malicious cases.”

    At whose discretion?

I personally believe everyone should pay taxes, that’s how you keep the country working. But not paying your taxes/insurance can get you into trouble as it is, regardless of your nationality.

I find this quite funny tbh:

    >Citing a 2023 survey of seven local governments in the country, he [Koizumi] said, “The fact that there are malicious cases of delinquent payments has been corroborated,” seeking understanding for the provision.

I don’t think anyone was arguing that there were 0 cases of this happening.

  8. They are talking about revoking the permanent residency of people who intentionally don’t pay their taxes or commit serious crimes. It sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

  9. it seems to be the opposite to what european union is doing. which makes it the right way.
