Changing to a work visa after graduating language school.

I’ve been trying to research this, search other posts, etc. but not having any luck. I wanted to ask if anyone has been in my situation and can help me understand what will happen.

I am due to graduate language school in a few weeks, and am about to apply for a change of visa status, from student visa to a work visa.

I know that when I apply, my student visa will be extended to allow time to wait for my new visa to be ready. My current visa expires in August, so it will be extended to October (I think).

However, if I graduate and finish school, which I plan on doing at the end of June, what will happen? Say my visa takes 2 months to be ready, for the whole of July and August I’ll be on a student visa but not attending school..? Which is not allowed?

Will I have to return home while I wait for my visa to be ready? Can I just stay in Japan and do nothing? Can I keep working my baito and only do that? Or is my only option to pay another tuition and keep attending school for another term?

I’m really confused and can’t find any information online.

It’s possible for me to extend my studies for another term, but I’d rather not do that if I can avoid it, since it’s expensive, and if my visa is ready earlier than expected, I’ll have to stop school mid semester and I won’t get any refund on my tuition.

If I can stay and just do nothing or work my baito, I’ll do that, but if I need to stay in school, I need to apply asap to extend my studies. I don’t mind either way, I just want to avoid paying unnecessarily, and also I don’t want to return to my home country.

Thank you!
