Shinjuku is set to ban public drinking for one night on Halloween this year. The ward plans to prohibit alcohol consumption on the streets around the busy JR Shinjuku Station and Kabukicho entertainment district from October 31 to November 1.
Officials want this measure will help manage the large crowds that descend on Shinjuku for Halloween festivities, especially after Shibuya's drinking restrictions drove more revelers to Shinjuku in 2023. Convenience stores and other retailers will also be asked to refrain from selling alcoholic beverages during the ban period.
