Shinkansen vs local train gate (?)

Hello!

I am going to Japan next week, I informed myself about different trains and lines but what I just don’t understand are the gates, would appreciate some help 😅

The thing that bothers me is the Shinkansen from Tokyo (Shibuya) to Kyoto.

1) Shinkansen ticket: If i got it correctly I can buy the ticket for the Shinkansen online, scan it at any station to get the physical ticket which I will need? Also I saw somewhere that you get 2 tickets for one Shinkansen ride, and elsewhere just 1? Can someone explain?

2) Base fare: The base fare for the Shinkansen ticket is not covered by IC cards but rather included in the Shinkansen ticket?

3) Let’s say I start at Shibuya station and travel to Shinagawa station via a metro line (Ginza) or via a JR line (Yamanote), I tap in at Shibuya station with my Suica, at Shinagawa station I am still in the station and need to transfer to the Shinkansen, at the gate I insert the Shinkansen ticket and simultaneously tap the Suica? Then at Kyoto station I do the same only the Shinkansen ticket stays in the gate, and Suica is scanned to mark the end of the ride?

I also saw that if i transfer from a JR line (Yamanote) I can only scan the Shinkansen ticket, no need to bother with Suica? Is that correct?

Would really appreciate the help and a detailed answer!
