Question regarding change of visa status

Greetings, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but I will give it a try anyway, sorry if I am wrong.

I am a videogame developer with a dependant visa, and no university degree because in my country it didn't exist when I was studying. I have a chance to be hired by a gaming company here, but I would need to change my visa to an Engineer one, and they are not sure I can.
As far as I understand, I would need to gather over 10 years of related experience in that field to be eligible. Back in my country, I worked as a freelancer after finishing my studies (I prove that experience with the tax agency documents of that time) and then I worked as a game developer teacher in universities for a couple of years. After that I started working at a gaming company before coming here.

My question would be if my years as a game development teacher qualify as experience on the category I'm applying. Otherwise, I would be missing a year to get the visa.

Also before someone mentions it, I have already check with the immigration office in my region, but they wouldn't give me a straight answer.
