Hello everyone, for years I’ve been wondering about how to properly write my name. My grandfather that named me, unfortunately, died without being able to tell me how it is written or its meaning at all. And since I’m not fully Japanese, born and raised overseas the language wasn’t really part of my tuition.
I’m guessing since there’s isn’t any documents that tells me exactly how my name is written, I can come up with anything. I’ve looked at some kanjjs for name and such and those interested me 祥一 (Shoichi). What I need to know if does it make any sense or is it even a name. All the help is appreciated.

祥一 is a valid name—I can’t say it’s a common choice of kanji for しょういち, but a quick Google search shows that there are real people who use those exact kanji. It also shows up as a suggestion for baby names on [this site](https://namehintbox.com/yomitokanji.php?yomi=%E3%81%97%E3%82%87%E3%81%86%E3%81%84%E3%81%A1), which also shows that particular set of kanji is associated with medium luck (on a scale large good luck > medium good luck > small good luck > neutral > small bad luck > large bad luck) if you’re interested in those types of superstitions (which your grandfather may have taken into consideration).
This is a bit of late to the party, but it’s perfectly fine to not have kanji for your name as well and use just hiragana. Random example of another Shoichi: https://oneosaka.jp/member/detail/onishi_shoichi.html
