First time making sushi. Lessons learned but the taste was pretty great.

Yes I know not every item on here is "technically" sushi (like the slice of sirloin on rice). But I got excited after the first tempura roll and decided to try different things. The Tuna came from Aldi and was surprisingly some of the best I've had. I live a 3 day drive from the nearest ocean so forgive me for using what I could.

Lessons learned:

  1. Keep a water bowl close by. I bought the sushi grade short grain rice. It stuck to EVERYTHING.

  2. Careful with a sauce bottle. I bought a new bottle of Sriracha Mayo and incorrectly assumed it would pour out cleanly…. I was wrong.

  3. Use smaller cuts. I almost choked on the beef the slices were so large

  4. Less is more. Some of my rolls were quite large and not exactly bite size.

  5. Sharpen the knives.

  6. Have fun with it. I used grilled chicken in one roll, straight veggies in another, steak, fish, etc. All of it tasted great.

I'm excited to try this again soon.
