Currently planning out a 14-day trip in early November for me and my wife. This is more "my" trip as I've always wanted to go to Japan, but I got a bit overwhelmed with all the possible things to do, so I tried to mark down the basics and leave some time to be open to explore a bit. We're not really focused on shopping and nightlife for us its (1) food, (2) experiences and (3) sightseeing.
Budget wise, we're trying to be practical with the accommodations (minus Disney, perhaps). Initially we budgeted USD 5500 including flights, but those ended up getting paid for me, so we have a good amount room to splurge on things.
Flight:
Nov 3 – 4; landing at ~3PM in NRT
Nov 4 – 6 Disney Tokyo
Accommodation: possibly on-site, depending on the cost, otherwise surrounding area.
Wife's demand that we do Disney, and we were unsure of where to place it in the trip. My initial thought is that landing on the 4th is a holiday, so things might be more chill and we can just relax that day before hitting the parks on the 5th/6th and leave on the morning of the 7th.
Nov 7 + 8 – Asakusa
Accommodation: hotel MONday (I was looking at the GATE, but it seems prohibitively expensive now?)
Most of the research I've done for what to do said staying in Asakusa was the best bet – and then I just tried to map out the things I wanted to do while in the area split into two days:
Day 1:
- Sensō-ji Temple
- Asakusa Shrine
- Pokemon Center
- East Gardens
- Toei & Ghibli Museums
- Ueno Park
Day 2:
- Teamlabs
- Gundam Base
- Toyosu
- Cup Noodle/Ramen Museums
Nov 9 – 11 – Kyoto
Accommodation: Miru Kyoto Gion (again, looked at the Granbell, but seemed like it got more expensive)
I haven't broken down the days in detail here, but figure it will follow the same split of working North to South over the three days:
Day 1:
- Nishiki Market
- Imperial Palace
- Daigo-ji
- Fushimi Inari
Day 2:
- Arashiyama
- Saihōji
- Kinkaku-ji
Day 3:
- Chill & wander?
Nov 11 – 13 – Osaka
Accommodation: Mitsui Garden Hotel Premier
Visiting a friend here, so will let them tell me what to do, but probably the normal sights. To note, probably not taking a trip over to Nara.
- Osaka Castle
- Aquarium
- Dotonbori
Nov 13 – 15 – Hiroshima (TBD)
I have a couple extra days between here Osaka and returning to Tokyo, another friend of mine recommended heading to Hiroshima and possibly Fukuoka for food; so this is open for us to book around.
Nov 16 – 18 – Tokyo
Accommodation: TBD
Catching up with things in Shinjuku / Shibuya mostly and anything that we might have missed on the initial days in Asakusa
Flight home: Nov 18 @ 5PM
