My partner and I are going for three weeks next March 2025.
One of the ways I have channeled my excitement for our trip is through learning Japanese (I have no previous knowledge), I have been using duolingo and pimsluer combined (duolingo because it's fun and I'm a visual person, and I think? it's doing a good job teaching me vocabularly, and pimsleur to actually learn how to speak and have a conversation). My goal is to have some basic conversational knowledge a year from now.
Since coming on this thread I have felt disheartened that maybe it's not very worth it to learn japanese before our trip, I have read things such as native japanese speakers find it annoying, you don't really need it, etc.
What has your experience been / your thoughts?
(I should mention I am having a lot of fun learning so I am going to continue regardless, but reading these posts took some of the wind out of my sails)
