Question About Japanese Maternity Leave Laws and Work-from-Home Policies

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are both working for the same company, and we are excited to announce that we are expecting a baby! We have some questions about Japanese laws regarding pregnancy and maternity leave, and we're hoping for some insights from those who have experience or knowledge in this area.

Our HR department has informed us that my wife needs to take at least 8 weeks of maternity leave, which we understand is in line with Japanese law. However, they also mentioned that there are no options for working from home or additional leave beyond the mandatory 8 weeks.

We are wondering if this is standard practice in Japan. Are there any legal provisions or common company policies that we should be aware of concerning working from home during pregnancy or additional leave options? We want to make sure we are fully informed about our rights and options.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.
