Hello all, I live in Japan, and I have for a while now. I'd like to visit home (the U.S.) maybe just after Christmas.
Moving here, my company paid for my flight and gave an annual flight home as a benefit. However, this is my first year with a different company, and looking up flights, I see the cheapest being in the 260k+ range.
However, when I talk to my friends/coworkers, they talk about how they got flights back to America for much cheaper, even less than 1k. During Christmas last year, one coworker got a flight from Haneda to Arkansas for $600 roundtrip with checked luggage. Her flight was on Christmas Eve! I asked her what website she used and she said, "I don't know, I just Googled it." She didn't use any reward points or have some special membership to any kind of discount airline or anything.
Does anybody have any good tips/tricks for finding cheap flights? Or maybe some good websites? I'm not looking for duct taped turbines cheap, but I also don't care about extra amenities besides luggage (for reference I'm fine taking the night buses instead of the shinkansens because of the price difference).
