Government is annuncing the new rule to id customers when subscribing a mobile phone contract.
no more driving license allowed. the IC chip of the my number card must be read to identify the person.
note:
for foreigners is not clear as the my number card is not a replacement for the residence card.
As a commenter noted in person contracts at the shop require reading an ID with an IC chip including, but not limited to the mynumber card (we could asdume driving license, zairyu card et least).
for online contracts the mynumber card would be mandatory.
