For your consideration: Hakone Highland Hotel, highly suggested

Hakone is a popular stop off spot or daytrip for many going into Tokyo. If this is in your agenda, I would like to make the recommendation for Hakone Highland Hotel. Not sponsored, don't work there, just someone who had a very pleasant stay there and would like to promote it to others looking for lodging in Hakone.

It is a slightly contemporary/modern hotel and not a Ryokan. They might have traditional Japanese style rooms, but I am unaware on that front. I stayed in a twin in the main residence, and the rooms are huge. And although I doubt any foreigner is traveling with their dog, they also apparently have dog friendly rooms.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. I got snowed out of Hakone for one day, and they contacted Agoda on my behalf to get one night refunded. A boon towards booking direct with the hotel, but it worked out.

The onsen is very nice, with a gorgeous outdoor tub surrounded by trees. Indoors there is a whirlpool, indoor onsen, and dry sauna. There is also a rest area just outside the onsens with lounge chairs, books, etc.

The meals are scrumptious. You have 3 or 4 options for breakfast and dinner gives you a Western or Japanese option. I only got to stay one night because of the snow, so I only got the western option, but it was quite good.

The hotel has a direct stop on the Hakone-Tozan bus, so it's easily reachable from Odawara. It is a short walk from the glass museum.
