What transportation/regional passes to get?

Hey everyone,

Super excited to be planning my first trip to Japan this September! I've been pouring over transportation options and regional passes, but I'm feeling a bit lost. My goal is to find a balance between comfort and affordability – ideally, I don't want to break the bank but still have a smooth travel experience. I’d love some advice and recommendations from locals and experienced travelers. Here the plan (so far!):

  • Do these regional passes seem like the best fit for my itinerary, or are there other options I should be looking at? More specifically, does the JP West Kansai Pass makes sense for my trip? Does it cover the travel from Kyoto to Osaka?
  • Any additional tips or tricks for navigating transportation in Japan? Is it okay I bring my luggage in the train? In which trips should I be ordering luggage space?
  • Do I need to purchase any of these passes well in advance, or will I be okay waiting until closer to my trip?

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

P.S. Feel free to ask any questions about my itinerary to give the best recommendations!
