What do you think of my itinerary?

This is my second visit but first for my family, so I want them to get to know the classics. Trip will be late September/October

Day 1-3 – Tokyo

Day 4 – Kanazawa

Day 5-6 – Takayama (Visit to Shirakawa-go)

Day 7-9 – Kyoto

Day 10-12 – Hiroshima (Visit to Himeji/Miyajima/Fukuoka or Naoshima, not decided here)

Day 13-14 – Osaka (Visit to Nara)

Day 15 – Hakone

Day 16-18 – Tokyo

I'd like to add Kamakura and Fuji Q from Tokyo as well. (I probably won't do much on day 1 and 18 since I'm arriving/leaving)

Does it feel a bit rushed? Any place I should add or remove?

  1. This is probably too tight, especially for a family. I would drop Kanazawa and Takayama and reallocate those days elsewhere.

You’ll need to make up your mind on days 10-12. I don’t think it’s worth going all the way out to Fukuoka if you’re not visiting the rest of Kyushu. Kagoshima and Nagasaki are wetter better options in that area, but are likely impractical for you without a flight.

Noashima is great but it will be quite a bit of work to get there from Hiroshima. You should go if you can and one full day is perfect but be sure to plan out the timings and routes with the ferries.

Himeji is totally worth a half day as in nice because you don’t need an expensive train to get there.
