Hi everyone, again!
I’m planning a trip to Japan this October and I’d love some advice and recommendations from locals and experienced travelers. Here are the days I’m going:
Day Spread:
- October 6–10: Osaka (Day trips to Nara and Kobe)
- October 10–13: Kyoto
- October 13–14: Kanazawa
- October 14–15: Takayama
- October 15–16: Gero Onsen
- October 16–18: Hakone
- October 18–20: Tokyo (Part 1)
- October 20–22: Nikko
- October 22–24: Tokyo (Part 2)
Planned Regional Passes:
Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass:
- Cost: ~15,000 JPY for 7 days
- Coverage: Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Kanazawa
- Use: From October 6–13
Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass:
- Cost: ~14,260 JPY for 5 days
- Coverage: Kanazawa, Takayama, Gero Onsen
- Use: From October 13–16
Hakone Free Pass:
- Cost: ~5,700 JPY for 2 days
- Coverage: Hakone area transport
- Use: From October 16–18
Nikko Pass (All Area):
- Cost: ~4,600 JPY for 4 days

- Use: From October 20–22
Tokyo Wide Pass:
- Cost: ~10,180 JPY for 3 days
- Coverage: Tokyo metropolitan area, including Nikko and Hakone
- Use: For exploring Tokyo and nearby areas if needed
Questions:
- Do these regional passes make sense for my itinerary?
- Are there any other passes or transportation tips I should consider?
- Do I need to buy/reserve any of these passes well in advance?
Thanks in advance for your help!
