Japan with kids

Planning a holiday to Japan to explore as much as we can with a nearly 5 year old and 7 year old. Just wanting tips and tricks and fantastic stuff we HAVE to do and stuff to avoid. Definitely want to do 2 nights at Disneyland/DisneySea and hotel so will be in Tokyo plus a few extra days, and are wanting to go to Osaka and Hiroshima. Ideas would be amazing – things to do, places to stay and places to eat 🙂 thank you so much in advance.

  1. When we visited Osaka recently we really enjoyed the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. We love whale sharks! That whole plaza was fun for the whole family. It’s timed entry into the aquarium, so something to keep in mind if you’re thinking of taking the kiddos there. That plaza has a lot of shopping, restaurants, a LEGO Discovery Center, a giant ferris wheel and an arcade.

  2. Make sure they’re well-behaved on the trains. Some Americans had their toddler chucking a tantrum and the glares they were getting was real 😂 Japanese kids wouldn’t be caught dead acting up in public like that and I was just counting my blessings I wasn’t those parents….

  3. we just stayed a few days at the Hiroshima Grand Base and it was really great. if you’re ok with staff-less hotel, everything was done electronically. had a double and two single beds…small living room area with sofa and coffee table. small kitchenette with stove, microwave, sink.

laundry in-unit. very clean…seems like a new place. close to peace park. my boys (8 and 11) really liked it.

  4. Just a heads up, walking 15k+ steps a day will be challenging for kids, and for you too since you will have to take care of them. My kid is 9 and our movement was a bit limited because of her.
