What kind of hand soap do they use in Japan?

Hi. I have been in Japan for a few weeks in Tokio, Kyoto and Osaka and I noticed that in all the bathrooms they had a very specific hand soap : Whenever I pressed the button on the dispenser, the soap came out already in the form of foam.

In all the dispensers here in Spain the soap always comes out in liquid form and then you have to rub it on your hands to make it foam.

The thing is that I bought a soap dispenser in Japan and I have brought it to Spain and I have put normal liquid hand soap that they sell here and unfortunately it does not work. It just releases the soap in liquid form. This makes me think that they use a special type of hand soap there.

Does anyone know exactly what kind of soap it is? I would love to be able to use it at home

Thank you very much

  1. The most common household soap that dispense bubble is the ‘Kirei Kirei’ brand. You need both specific dispenser AND specific soap since regular soap is too viscous to be dispense through the foam maker.

  2. You could try mixing water with the soap. You might have to experiment with the proper water to soap ratio though.

We have foam soap dispensers here in the US as well but I don’t buy them because they’re expensive and I don’t like the idea of paying the same(or more) for watered down soap.

  3. There are lots of “foaming hand soaps” sold on the Japanese market as well as in other parts of the world (US, etc). Maybe try Amazon in your country and look for the foaming hand soap? Perhaps some companies are importing them?

  4. The foaming soaps are one of the things I really love. I bought the dispensar and refill of the Biore Face foaming wash and although I bathe with regular bar soap the face wash is my guilty pleasure LOL.

  5. You can use diluted Dr. Bronner’s in the foaming soap dispenser you bought in Japan. We’ve been doing it for years and it works like a charm.

  6. You need a foaming hand soap dispenser, like this – Sagrotan Jabón de Espuma de Terciopelo con Flor de Cerezo y Rosa, 1 jabón de Espuma de 250 ml en dispensador de jabón, 250 ml (1 Unidad) https://amzn.eu/d/0581HnwH

They sell refillable foaming soap dispensers in Daiso too. It’s called a soap suds dispenser – Dispensador de jabón/dispensador de jabón Botella 500 ml https://a.co/d/0g3L5dmk

  7. You need a foaming dispenser and a liquid soap that you can dilute with water for the foaming. I use a castile soap and mix it 2:1 with water. Buy one of the muji foaming dispensers while you’re there!
