Accessible travel questions (primarily Tokyo-related)

I’ve been to Japan twice by myself but I’m researching a third trip that would be with my girlfriend. She is a wheelchair user, so the sorts of places I would stay and go if I were going alone aren’t necessarily places we could both go. Like normally I’d stay in a hostel but that ain’t happening.

I’ve found some articles about Tokyo’s and Japan’s effort to boost accessibility before the Olympics and I’ve found the Accessible Japan site. But how common are elevators at Tokyo Metro stations etc.

But I’m trying to find a place to say that has accessible rooms and isn’t too expensive. Ideally, I want to find someplace where we can share a bed. I’ve found a couple places that specifically note and describe their accessible rooms but they all have two twin beds. She would really want to do Disney (DisneySea has a whole Little Mermaid area and Ariel is her favorite Disney princess) but I checked the Disney hotels and all they have for accessibility is the two twin setup.

  2. I wonder if the twin beds could be pushed together and have one cover over them? I’ve seen this set up in some places (not in Japan tho) to allow for more flexibility on the hotel’s part.

I’ve never had to look specifically for accessibility needs but some of the love hotels I’ve been have also been surprisingly accessible if you wanted to try looking for those
