How many word it took you before you could comfortably watch unsubbed anime? follow a conversation? read a manga? (or whatever other milestone you remember)
And I'm not assuming that flashcards were the only source of study. I'm just interested in estimated how many words it takes to reach a certain level, and the number of studied flashcards is a pretty good metric.
For comparison, my current vocabulary is between 4-5 thousand, and though there's a lot I can understand it's not nearly enough to comfortably consume native content. I'm curious how many more words do I need realistically to reach a solid level of comprehension
(I'm also putting aside grammar, I'm aware that vocabulary alone isn't enough, but you can't really quantify grammatical knowledge).
