Essentials moving to Japan in 2025 taking weak yen into consideration

Hi all, I (EU citizen) am currently planning my move to Japan to be with my partner in 2025. Unfortunately due to his unstable financial situation (changing jobs, not EN speaking) he cannot come to EU instead. Fortunately, I have a stable job and decent savings, but the job cannot transfer into a remote job.

I already have housing in Japan, and from the lists it seems like Rakuten, Sony or Shinsei seem like the best banking options. I don't own housing/have a mortgage in EU. I do have savings and ETF investments in EU.

Now, I was wondering what the best steps are to take before moving to Japan now that the yen is weak and euro is valuable. As I saw in a different post, I suppose it is a good idea to accumulate yen in a Wise account. I plan to convert about 10k euro (ideally resulting in 2 million jpy) to make sure I can live while looking for a job in Japan.

I have never lived in Japan before, but this sub really helps a lot, just want to make sure to not miss the necessary steps to enter Japan financially smoothly! I’ll be grateful for any guidance.

Edit for clarification: 1) I already have money saved for whatever plans I have in the future unrelated to moving to Japan. I would like to use a portion of it to convert into yen. 2) I do speak and read Japanese.
