First of all, I’d like to say I don’t follow New Japan completely, so I am not deeply in the know of its history. I just thought of a tournament-related storyline that seemed funny to me.
Wrestler A and B belong to the same heel faction, and are both in the same block in a tournament. They are innate enemies with Wrestler C who is also in the same block. However, going into this tournament, A and B seem to have some serious tension.
In the tournament, C defeats A and B. The last day features A vs B, with the following standing (just an example):
• C – 8 pts
• B – 8 pts
• A – 8 pts
(Top 2 advance)
C is involved in A and B’s growing tension, confident that he’ll go through, as only one of A and B can overtake him. This tension between A and B comes to a head in their match. But in a swerve, A and B don’t fight, are actually cool with each other, then take the double count-out and win a point each, to advance as the Top 2 to spite C.
This might be some fantasy booking that you may frown upon, but I just find it hilarious if, say, two members of the HoT do this. What can you say?
