I’ll be staying in Kitami and I plan to go to Abashiri during the morning but I have to leave by 12-1 to catch a bus in Kitami.
I want to visit the prison, Northern Peoples’ Museum and the Drift Ice Museum.
Are there any buses that go directly there from Abashiri Station?

Take “Shinai Kanko Shisetsu Meguri”(Tentozan line) by Abashiri Bus. Get off at “Hoppou Minzoku Hakubutsukan Mae.” (Next to Okhotsk Ice Froat Museum)

I’ve been there once, in February. I did go to the prison and drift ice museum. The former was somewhat interesting and the latter was kind of a gimmick (though if I recall correctly it’s more or less on the way to the prison). What I remember most was the icebreaker sightseeing cruise, but I don’t know what the pack ice would be like at this time of year compared to February.
Apparently they have really amazing oysters. One of my students was from there and he mentioned this on more than one occasion.
Monbetsu > Abashiri.
there’s a bus depot in front of the JR station that’ll get you to all your destinations but i’ve found that besides a mediocre drift ice boat and the blue beer brewery, the sights arent as concentrated as Monbetsu’s.
