Locations between Sendai and Tokyo

Posting here since i was told that this community would be the right place.

Spots between Sendai and Tokyo Debate

I'm planning a trip to Japan with a group of friends this August! Having already explored Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, this time I’m heading north and can’t wait to visit Sendai, which is definitely on my list. I’ve done quite a bit of research and found that Sendai has a rich blend of modern and traditional attractions. We’ll be spending three days there and then I have the rest of the week open.

In Sendai, we plan to visit the Sendai Castle ruins for a bit of history and a panoramic view of the city. The Zuihoden Mausoleum, the final resting place of Date Masamune, is also on our list. we would be trying the gyutan (grilled beef tongue) a bit nervous though. We also know about the Akiu Onsen but summer and onsen might not go together!?

Our group is still trying to agree on our next stops after Sendai. Some want to head up to Aomori for more natural beauty and I'm up for that. We will miss the Nebuta Matsuri in early August since we will be there mid August. The Aomori’s Seiryu-ji Temple is another big one which has the largest seated bronze Buddhais another attraction that sounds very interesting. This information is based on what i found on English websites.

Others in our group are considering going back to Tokyo and they want to go to the undiscovered neugbourhoods and check out spas or explore the neighborhoods of Shimokitazawa and Nakameguro. The argument is never ending and i really need help to settle this.

What im particularly interested is in exploring the destinations between Sendai and Tokyo and other than Fukushima there don't seem to be many options for summer.

Another potential stop is Nikko known for the World Heritage site Toshogu Shrine and the beautiful Kegon Falls but what ive read is that it gets really hot and is not worth the visit in summer.

Do you have any suggestions for must-see spots between Sendai and Tokyo? Or should we consider venturing further north, given our limited time? We’re open to any recommendations.
